Monster Girl Quest game out

Remember that hentai game I talked about back here.

It’s out.

I managed to fiddle around with the Japanese website and buy it using my credit card and judicious use of a translation program. It was an interesting exercise in cryptography and sheer bloody-mindedness, and one you don’t have to go through as it’s already up on the English side.

You can get it here: http://eng.dlsite.com/work/=/product_id/RE074254.html

I imagine I’ll be able to pick up some inspiration for some even more twisted and perverse demons to include in my stories. I’d love to be able to create a game like this. Of course, Horror-head will probably bludgeon all traces of kawaii out of it.

In the meantime the game seems like fun. Steering your character to an untimely end has never felt this satisfying since getting Lara Croft to swan dive off a very high cliff back in the old Tomb Raider days.

  1. Question: About the translation software you use, is it better than Google Translation or Babelfish in translating Japanese, or does it butcher the language as much as those two translation softwares do? You mentioned in an earlier post about how sometimes you had to use common sense when figuring out a phrase, since it's machine translation, but is that only a little bit or do you have to do that a lot?

  2. Answer :) : It's an aggregator that fires the raw text off to google and other auto translate sites. The language is butchered exactly as you'd expect from machine translation, but with 5 or 6 translations open side by side it's possible to get an idea of the original meaning. It's enough to follow what's going on, but don't expect it to render the sentences into gorgeous, sparkling prose :)

  3. YOu didn't happen to have an error occur when you ran the game did you? Can't seem to get past the first few scenes of text with the angel without the game crashing on me =(

  4. That sounds like the classic problem for most Japanese games. You need to set up your computer to be able to handle Japanese characters. On my machine it's done through Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options -> Administrative Tab -> Change System Locale so that current language for non-unicode programs is Japanese.

  5. or use AppLocale if you don't wanna bother changing the language of your entire system

btw love your stories! not only are they sexy (and disturbingly so) but the fantastic writing is a rare sight in online erotica-land. keep it up! (so to speak :)

  6. Do you need a key for the game? Any chance you can upload the install file somewhere?

    I wanna play it but $30 is $30 I don't have.

  7. Not from me, sorry. It would be really sucky if the guys who made this couldn't make any more because too many people pirated it instead of buying a copy.

Saying that, there are copies up on the internet if you look hard enough. Make sure you give the dudes some money when/if your circumstances change. We got to look out for the little indy dudes if we want them to keep creating cool stuff ;)

  8. Trying to get it to work through crossover games on a mac. I can get it to launch but it keeps crashing at the same point with the angel. Trying to figure out how to enable Jap fonts... hmm...

  9. Sounds like the typical Japanese character problem. Don't really know a great deal about macs. Apple make nice-looking kit, but I can't stand their control-freakery.

  10. Alex, if you go to your Language setting to Japanese (Apple->System Preferences->International->Language and drag Japanese to the top of the list) it *should* solve the problem since it's supposed to read the language setting from the OS. If not you should probably file a bug report to CrossOver.

  11. Hey, how easy is it to download exactly? I downloaded the trial and it opens straight up once it's out of the zip file, but is the main game so simple to put on your computer? What about the English patch and the side stories?

Is it actually a relatively simple task to install, or do I have to be a computer programmer to enjoy this game for myself?
